Chitter Spirit Badge

If your tubing has mysterious bite marks, check for Chitters. These blue beasties come through to Urth around Butter County, Iowa, where they chew farming equipment, tires, and especially tubes. Their enthusiasm for hydraulic fluid has historically created problems for everyone involved.

Ranger Fact: Do not rehabilitate a population of tube-chewing beasties at headquarters without telling anyone. Monster Rangers have procedures for this sort of thing now, and Tom X has dishwashing duties for a reason.

Point Value: Worth 20 Glory Points toward your Monster Rangers badge collection.

HOW TO EARN THIS BADGE

Choose one:

  • Inspect three harmless pieces of hose, tubing, or rubber around your home or workshop and identify which one a Chitter would ruin most efficiently.
  • Build a small Chitter-proof storage solution for loose cords, tubes, or hoses using containers you already have.
  • Create a tabletop feeding test using three nonfood scrap materials and let another Ranger judge which one looks most irresistibly chewable to a blue beastie.

Jr. Monster Rangers

Choose one:

  • With a grown-up, inspect a garden hose, bicycle tire, or safe piece of tubing and look for ordinary wear that could be blamed on imaginary Chitters.
  • Make a blue Chitter from paper or clay and give it an enormous set of tube-chewing teeth.
  • Play Hide the Tube by hiding a paper tube indoors and following three clues before the Chitter finds it first.

Secret Power (for the Monster Rangers RPG)

“Tube-Chewer's Instinct” — Once per session, identify the hose, cable, pipe, or flexible connection most important to a nearby machine or contraption. You learn what would stop working if that part were damaged.
