Hobb

Hobbs come from the Varix Mountains of the Hobbthain Dominion, where they live in underground hives and cultivate a reputation for enormous jaws, infected bites, and deeply unreliable promises. They are bigger than a Grig, smaller than a Rukka, and entirely capable of saying whatever gets a Ranger closer to dinner.

Ranger Fact: A Hobb asking you to come closer is not being friendly. Central Command prefers distance, sturdy barriers, and absolutely no experiments involving your fingers.

Point Value: Worth 10 Glory Points toward your Monster Rangers badge collection.

HOW TO EARN THIS BADGE

Choose one:

  • Learn three real-world rules for avoiding bites from wild or unfamiliar animals and share them with another Ranger.
  • Build a tabletop Hobb hive from cardboard, paper tubes, or blocks with at least two entrances and one obviously terrible place to stand.
  • Create a safe decoy 'Hound Pellet' sack using labeled paper scraps and work out where you would place it if the goal were keeping imaginary Hobbs away from camp.

Jr. Monster Rangers

Choose one:

  • With a grown-up, learn why you should never touch or feed an unfamiliar wild animal.
  • Make a Hobb face with an enormous jaw and enough teeth to explain the warning.
  • Build a small pretend underground hive from boxes or blocks and mark a safe Ranger route around it.

Secret Power (for the Monster Rangers RPG)

“Big-Jaw Warning” — Once per session, recognize when a creature's friendly behavior is really hunger, aggression, or a setup. Gain a small advantage to avoid getting too close.
