HOW TO EARN THIS BADGE

Choose one:

  • Repair or maintain one ordinary mechanical object instead of ignoring the squeak for another month.
  • Take apart a safe, unwanted mechanical item and study how its pieces work together.
  • Build a simple moving contraption from gears, wheels, cardboard, fasteners, or other harmless parts.

  • With a grown-up, examine how a simple mechanical object such as a hand-crank tool or bicycle part works.
  • Build a moving machine from blocks, cardboard, craft sticks, or recycled parts.
  • Draw an invention with at least three labeled moving parts and one completely unnecessary lever.
